Here Are The Rules
For Making
A Priority: Alzheimer's Quilt

Read The Rules FIRST
- Finished quilts must be no larger than 9" x 12" and fit into a flat cardboard priority mailer without folding or scrunching. No exceptions. Please measure your quilt CAREFULLY before you register it. If it is too big, it could possibly become a Little Treasures quilt. Please don't fudge the measurements. While Ami is math intolerant she CAN tell if your 9" x 12" quilt has grown between the time you registered it and the time it arrives at her door.
- Any theme, style, color, technique, or ability or is welcome.
- You must share how your quilt can be displayed.
- Quilts must be free from any embellishments that can not withstand the "careful" care provided by the USPS. This can include being driven over by one of the cute little mail trucks.
- Quilts must be submitted by the maker(s). Or, if you are registering quilts on behalf of others, you must apply to be a Temporary Quilt Registration Goddess. (Link below as well.)
- If the design is from a pattern or any other source not your own, even if you change it a little, permission of the copyright holder in writing must be secured BEFORE you register. You must indicate you have permission in writing when you register, AND written permission must accompany the quilt. (Stick the email or letter in the envelope when you mail your quilt.)
- All rights to the quilt are retained by the designer except the rights to exhibit, sell, and publish the quilt you donate with/or without accompanying information (anywhere, everywhere, and in all media, in perpetuity) for the purposes of awareness, publicity, and fundraising. These rights are given to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative by the act of by donating a quilt.
- Quilts will be sold by auction (Internet, live, or silent) or sold outright at the discretion of the Executive Director, Ami Simms. All profits will be used to fund Alzheimer's research. Each donation quilt will have its own web page and the purchase price of the quilt will be listed on this web site.
- NEW! Makers must disclose the Fair Market Value of their quilt. This information will NOT be published.
- You will not be notified as to who purchased your quilt. Messages may be attached to the back of your quilt for the future buyer as long as they don't interfere with photography. Pin them securely.
- Each quilt must be pre-registered, individually, via email. In a few days you will receive a return email assigning your quilt a number. (This is not an automated system. A real person reads your email. She is not glued to her computer.) Print the registration number at least 1/2" tall on the quilt back in the lower right hand corner of the quilt. If it can't be read at a glance, it's too small. Contrasting colored ink, embroidery, photo-transfer, paint, marker are all acceptable. No tape, paper, safety-pinned labels. Please put your name and the name of the quilt on the back. Include your city and state too. Here's a great example of how to sign your quilt.
- Ship your quilt(s) following the instructions you receive in the return email from the registrar. Include the ENTIRE return email with your quilt. Do not cut it.
- Making multiple quilts? FANTASTIC! When ALL YOUR QUILTS ARE FINISHED, register them at the same time, but remember that each quilt needs its own email. (You will be able to save postage by shipping them all together! Just wait for the instructions.)
When your quilt is complete and ready to ship, highlight and copy the information in green below
(cntrl + C). Click the button below to open an email and paste the information into the body of the email
(cntrl + V). Provide all the information requested. Contrasting color font is appreciated. Please do not type everything in UPPER CASE. It will not be accepted and you'll have to re-submit.
Do NOT, under any circumstance send Ami a quilt that is not registered!

- What is the fair market value of this quilt?
(It will not be registered without this information.) IF YOU DIDN'T CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE EXPLAINING WHAT FAIR MARKET VALUE IS, PLEASE GO BACK AND READ IT NOW! - STOP! If this quilt (and any other quilts you want to mail together at the same time) is not finished, please WAIT to register! (The length of time between you getting your registration number and Ami getting your quilt is proportional to the risk that her head will explode. The sooner your quilt arrives after registration the less work there is for Ami. Honest.) DON'T REGISTER UNLESS YOU'RE READY TO SHIP.
If you are registering more than one quilt you must send a separate email for each one. DON'T REGISTER UNLESS YOU'RE READY TO SHIP.
Registration signifies agreement with all conditions and requirements outlined above.
